Master of Fine Arts in Interaction Design

The MFA in Interaction Design works to focus on concepts that are vital to interaction design, HCI, design research, graphic design, interface design, and information architecture. Students will create innovative approaches to real human problems, they will develop a fluency in prototyping along with the practical application of visionary ideas, and they will even transform their own entrepreneurial concepts into new products or services. The program works as a collaboration of a studio environment where students will explore prototyping that will cross multi-disciplinary boundaries. The program is also focused on people—this is to say that it will teach people how to relate to each other through technology and products that are explored. Students will take part in open lectures in studio, and collaborative experiments with the New York City community—because of this the program becomes a central point for interaction design for the City. This program is also practice based—meaning that it is a professionally-focused program that works to train graduates to become working professionals that intend to make a difference in their community.

Students are expected to complete 60 credit hours—this can be done in as little as 2 years or as long as 4 years but no more. Students are expected and required to remain in a good academic standing, as Interaction Design is graded on a pass or fail basis. Additionally, all thesis projects must be on file with the MFA Interaction Design Department in order to be eligible for their degree conferral.
