Certificate in the Practice of Technical Communications

The Graduate Certificate for Technical Communication Essentials will prepare students to communicate in the quickly changing technological fields. Students will gain knowledge and skills in technical writing, editing, documentation, web-based training, and content management. This project is geared toward professionals that are on track to learn and expand their careers in positions like editors, technical writers, website designers, trainers, and documentation specialists. This certification is made up of two core courses and two electives. From all of the courses available, students will be exposed to the profession as well as academic discipline that is needed for technical and professional communication. It will include visual information, usability analysis, ethics, report writing, global communication, and technical writing style. Students will learn through the integration of techniques of composition, theories of design, and technologies of print and electronic publishing. Students will learn about the use of information architecture methods in order to develop a structure for presenting information.

Those in the program will learn vital skills to become a technical communicator. Entering this field requires a special skill set and tools to ensure successful implementation. They will be taught the skills that are necessary to create impressive mobile training programs. Students will have free access to the highly demanded proprietary software. This graduate certification program will narrow the focus of the student and allow them to dig deeper into specific topics that are of interest to them—allowing them to start applying their knowledge in just a short amount of time through a flexible program.
